BOTULINUM TOXIN (BOTOX®)
Pre-Treatment Instructions
To ensure the best possible results and minimize side effects, please follow these guidelines before your treatment:
Ensure you are in good health with no active skin infections in the treatment areas.
Be comfortable with needles and injections.
Avoid alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours before treatment, as alcohol can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.
Ideally, avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications and supplements for two weeks before treatment. These include Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDs, which can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
Schedule your Botox® appointment at least two weeks before any special events, such as weddings or vacations, to allow any potential bruising to subside.
Post-Treatment Instructions
To prevent ptosis (drooping of the eyelids) and other potential side effects, please adhere to the following guidelines after your treatment:
Avoid straining, heavy lifting, and vigorous exercise for 3-4 hours following treatment. This allows the toxin to bind to the nerve and prevents it from being dispersed.
Do not manipulate the treated area for 3-4 hours after treatment. This includes facials, peels, and microdermabrasion, which should be done before Botox® injections in the same appointment, if desired.
Perform facial exercises in the injected areas for 1 hour following treatment to encourage localized toxin binding.
Allow 2-10 days for the full effects to become apparent. If the desired outcome is not achieved, please contact the office no sooner than two weeks after treatment.
Makeup can be applied immediately after treatment with caution.
