Lip Precare PRECARE
Lip Blush Pre-Care & Post-Care Guidelines
As your artist, we are responsible for the precise application of your procedure. Clients are responsible for providing accurate information and following all pre-care and post-care instructions to achieve the best results.
Pre-Care: Preparing Your Lips
To ensure optimal pigment retention:
Exfoliation: Gently exfoliate your lips one week and 1 day prior using a soft toothbrush or washcloth.
Moisturize: Apply Aquaphor or a similar balm to keep lips soft and hydrated. Soft, moisturized lips allow for easier pigment implantation. If lips are too dry, the procedure may need to be rescheduled.
Cold Sores: If you are prone to cold sores, consult your physician about preventative antiviral medication before every session. OTC Lysine Supplements a week before and after is also OK.
Pain Management: Tylenol may be taken 30 minutes prior. Do not take ibuprofen.
Eating: Eat a meal prior to your appointment, as you will need to avoid food for 3 hours after the procedure.
Important Pre-Care Dates
One Year Prior: Discontinue Accutane.
One Month Prior: Avoid Botox, fillers, or injections around the treatment area.
48 Hours Prior:
Avoid all blood thinners (Ibuprofen, Pain Meds - Tylenol is OK)
Limit caffeine, alcohol, and smoking
Post-Care: Healing & Retention
Post-care is critical for optimal healing and long-lasting results. Every client heals differently, so it is imperative to follow instructions carefully.
Key Guidelines:
Keep lips clean and moisturized with the provided balm.
Avoid picking, scratching, or rubbing the treatment area.
Avoid excessive moisture, direct sun exposure, and hot, spicy, or oily foods.
Avoid kissing, exercise, or any activity that causes excessive sweating until fully healed.
Do not use petroleum-based products like Vaseline or Neosporin. Aquaphor is OK.
Remember: Pre-care prepares your lips for the procedure, and post-care ensures the best healed retention and final results.
CLEANSING
Immediately following the procedure, clients are recommended to keep the treatment area clean. The only time the lip area is to get wet is during the cleansing regimen.
Cleansing Tools: Your artist will provide antiseptic wipes and ointment for you after your appointment
Day 1
2 hours after your procedure, gently treat the area with the antiseptic wipes provided in your kit
After air dried, apply a small amount of aftercare ointment balm using a lip want
Moisturize lips as much as possible with balm or aquaphor for next week
Repeat step #1 & 2 after 2 hours
After that, no water or other cleansers of any kind can be used for 5 days. Drink through a straw
Swelling is normal after the procedure. Some clients will experience more swelling than others. This is due to the individual body reaction. Typically the swelling will go down within a few hours but can take up to 24 hours.
Avoid getting food on your lips for the next 3 hours. Cut food into bite sized pieces, have smoothies, and use a straw when drinking.
Keeping your Lips Moisturized
A very thin layer of the provided lip balm or aquaphor should be applied consistently throughout the day to the treatment area to help speed up recovery and keep the lips from shedding. Increased shedding will increase pigment loss as the pigment is injected to the top layers of skin.
DO NOT USE MINERAL OIL OR PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS
APPLYING TOO MUCH MOISTURIZER CAN LEAD TO FADING, so a super thin layer goes a long way
DO NOT LET THE AREA DRY OUT AND CRACK
DO NOT RUB WHEN APPLYING THE BALM. PAT ON ONLY
FIRST 48 HOURS
AVOID caffeine, tea, soda, energy drinks, hot temperature drinks etc
AVOID blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen, smoking, etc.Lip Blush Post-Care & Healing Guidelines
Healing Duration: Typically 10–14 days
Following these instructions closely is crucial for optimal healing and pigment retention. Everyone heals differently, so results may vary.
General Guidelines During Healing
Avoid:
Direct sunlight, tanning, or sunbathing (wear a hat for protection)
Moisture on the treated area unless otherwise instructed; keep lips dry until fully shed and healed
Activities that cause excessive sweating (exercise, saunas, steam rooms, swimming)
Hot beverages directly on lips — use a straw
Injections or fillers for at least 4 weeks
Kissing or physical activity that causes heavy sweating
Hot, steamy showers
Spicy, hot, or oily foods
Sleeping face-down
Picking, scratching, or rubbing the lips
Applying makeup to the treated area until fully healed and shed
Petroleum-based products (Vaseline, Neosporin, etc.)
Do:
Drink through a straw carefully
Hydrate and keep lips lightly moisturized with your provided balm
Healing Process Breakdown
Day 1:
Lips will appear 20–25% darker than the expected healed result
Moderate swelling and redness are normal
Days 2–4:
Swelling and redness should begin to subside
Treated area may appear darker and slightly larger due to initial scabbing
Days 5–7:
Shedding and itching begin
Do not pick scabs or scratch the area to avoid pigment loss
Days 7–8:
Shedding should be complete
Pigment may initially appear lighter as new skin forms over treated area
Weeks 2–6:
Pigment gradually darkens as the skin settles
True color should fully resurface by week 4–8 weeks
HEALING RATE
Clients will all heal at different rates. Some individuals will heal faster, some slower.
Touch-Up
Touch-up session fee is not included in the initial price.
Typically scheduled 6–12 weeks after your initial session
Purpose: Perfect pigmentation, ensure shape retention, and fill in any areas affected by healing mishaps (e.g., scab loss, premature flaking)
Not all clients will require a touch-up; consult your artist to determine if it is needed
Skin cells take 4–6 weeks to fully regenerate; your skin’s integrity is our top priority
Long-Term Care Once Healed
Avoid Retin-A, glycolic acids, exfoliants, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, laser treatments, and anti-aging products on tattooed areas — these can cause fading or discoloration
Avoid laser procedures around the tattoo unless instructed by your artist; lasers may darken, lighten, or alter the pigment
Avoid tanning beds
Always protect lips with moisturizer and sun protection
Pigments fade over time depending on metabolism, skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, medications, facial procedures, and smoking
Pigment color may shift over time; periodic touch-ups are recommended to maintain true color and long-lasting results
Note: There are no implied or guaranteed results. Every client heals differently.
